Reconstructive Challenges Following Extirpation of Head and Neck Cancer
Case Studies of Complex Head and Neck Defects
The surgical care of patients with cancers of the head & neck region is particularly challenging, given the unique reconstructive needs of this part of the body. Oncologic surgeons cannot only focus on cancer removal but must also keep in mind restoration of aesthetics and function. This panel will work up the reconstructive ladder, providing a case based review of various reconstructive options for an array of simple to complex head & neck defects.
After this session, attendees will be able to:
1. Describe the challenges involved in reconstruction after head and neck cancer surgery
2. Identify the best reconstructive techniques based on different defects
3. Indicate barriers to successful reconstruction of head and neck surgery patients.
