Identify challenges faced by people living SMI (severe mental illness, ie., Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective, Bipolar 1) that would be helpful for any physician to know who is encountering them in the healthcare system.
Review disease pathology and symptoms of severe mental illness.
Describe common treatments for SMI and recognize long-acting injectables often encountered on their medication lists
Highlight the evidence-based interventions used to optimize adherence and outcomes in SMI
Discuss the role of case managers and informal support systems that contribute to stability in SMI recovery, and recognize benefits and limitation of personal care homes, ACT, and other systems of formal psychosocial support.
