Decision Support Resources

As a result of participating in this workshop, participants should be able to: Knowledge • Identify various categories of disease information, to include etiology, pathophysiology, incidence and prevalence, presentation, diagnosis, treatment, etc. • Identify the depth of information in each disease resource • Identify if a resource is constantly updated versus only updated when new “editions” are published • Identify online and PDA resources for the following: • Differential Diagnosis o DxPlain o Epocrates Sx o PEPID • Disease Quick References o Epocrates Dx o PEPID o Dynamed o Harrison’s Practice • Calculators • Essential Evidence Plus-(Online and PDA) 1. Clinical Rules and such • Epocrates-(Online and PDA) • PEPID • Coding • Essential Evidence Plus (Online and PDA) • CDC • Laboratory resources • Access Medicine (Pocket Guide to Diagnostic Tests) • ePocrates Labs (Pocket Guide to Diagnostic Tests) • PEPID Lab Manual Skills: • Use online and PDA resources to determine a differential diagnosis • Use online and PDA resources to find disease information • Use online and PDA resources to find ICD-9 codes • Use online and PDA Calculators • Find laboratory information Attitudes • Use electronic information at the point of care and regular electronic alerts/news as methods for keeping up to date. • Model the use of the library resources in your practice to keep up to date is one of the greatest things you can do while teaching FSU CoM medical students.
