MUSM Clinical Faculty Development Series
An Introduction to Bioethics
The learning objectives of An Introduction to Bioethics by Donald E. Carter III focus on developing a foundational understanding of ethical decision-making in medical and research settings. Participants will learn to recognize ethical conflicts and uncertainty, allowing them to identify situations where ethical dilemmas arise. They will also be able to interpret their professional obligations and anticipate potential conflicts that may challenge ethical decision-making. Furthermore, the presentation encourages learners to engage in moral reasoning by evaluating ethical dilemmas through a structured approach. Lastly, participants will learn to apply the four fundamental biomedical ethical principles—autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice—to real-world scenarios, ensuring that ethical considerations remain central to clinical and research practices.
