Method Aesthetics Academy: PRF and PDO Threads Course

Platelet Rich Fibrin and Smooth Polydioxanone Threads

In this course, students will learn about the use of Platelet Rich Fibrin for skin rejuvenation. PRF is a natural, biocompatible matrix made from the patient's own blood, which is processed to concentrate platelets and other blood components involved in the healing process. This matrix provides a scaffold for cells to attach and grow, and the concentrated platelets release growth factors to stimulate the body's natural healing process. We will discuss various indications for PRF, as well as the preparation, application, and benefits of this innovative procedure. Clinical considerations, as well as case studies will also be reviewed and there will be an in-depth hands on lab whereby students prepare PRF using a model's blood with a cannula, including proper handling and sterilization. Students will also learn about polydioxanone (PDO) threads for skin rejuvenation. PDO threads are absorbable sutures that are inserted into the skin to lift and tighten sagging skin from the body's natural ageing process. PDO threads are also used to improve the overall texture of the skin. We will discuss different types of PDO threads, including barbed and mono threads, and each's indications and contra-indications and potential side effects. We will also cover proper insertion technique and patient care. Case studies will also be reviewed with thorough discussion. Each student will also pariticpate in a hands-on lab where they are closely proctored in utilization of PDO threads on a model patients from consultation/assessment, to preparation and proper technique and completion/after care.
