Pharmacology and Chronic Diseases with Comorbidities related to Hearing Loss, Tinnitus & Balance

Chronic diseases are often associated with hearing loss, tinnitus, and balance disorders, and pharmacological treatments used to manage these conditions can have significant effects on the auditory and vestibular systems. In this session, we will explore the relationship between chronic diseases, comorbidities related to hearing loss, tinnitus, and balance disorders, and the role of pharmacological treatments in managing these conditions. The session will begin with a quick overview of the most common chronic diseases associated with comorbidities related to hearing loss, tinnitus, and balance disorders, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and neurological disorders. We will discuss the mechanisms through which these chronic diseases can contribute to these conditions and the importance of identifying and managing these conditions to optimize treatment outcomes. We will then explore the pharmacological treatments commonly used to manage chronic diseases with comorbidities related to auditory function. Participants will learn about the potential side effects and interactions of these medications, and the strategies for managing them in patients with comorbidities. Finally, we will discuss the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to managing chronic diseases with comorbidities related to hearing loss, tinnitus, and balance disorders, including the role of pharmacists, physicians, and audiologists in optimizing medication use and managing comorbidities. By the end of this session, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between chronic diseases, comorbidities related to hearing loss, tinnitus, and balance disorders, and the role of pharmacological treatments in managing these conditions. They will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive care for their patients and improve patient outcomes. Attendees will be able to: Describe the connections between chronic diseases (such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and neurological disorders) and comorbidities related to hearing loss, tinnitus, and balance disorders, including the underlying mechanisms contributing to these conditions. Discuss insights into the pharmacological treatments commonly used for managing chronic diseases with auditory and vestibular comorbidities, along with their potential side effects and interactions. Recognize effective strategies for managing the side effects and interactions of medications used in treating chronic diseases with comorbidities related to hearing loss, tinnitus, and balance disorders, to optimize patient care and treatment outcomes.                                                                        Illustrate the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in managing chronic diseases with auditory and vestibular comorbidities, and appreciate the roles of various healthcare professionals, including pharmacists, physicians, and audiologists, in optimizing medication use and addressing comorbidities to improve patient outcomes.
