Clinical Utility of the Neurodiagnostic Vestibular Test Battery

Clinical Utility of the Neurodiagnostic Vestibular Test Battery

Dizziness and vertigo are two of the most common complaints of individuals across the lifespan and often present to ENT clinics with a wide variety of symptom profiles. A comprehensive neurodiagnostic assessment protocol utilized with these patients should include a test battery which allows the examiner to assess function of the entirety of the vestibular periphery, as well as the neural substrates involved in the process of equilibrium. This session will outline the importance of a comprehensive neurodiagnostic approach to evaluating the dizzy patient. Participants will learn how the test battery both guides medical triage and management and promotes successful outcomes in vestibular rehabilitation therapy when warranted. Attendees will be able to: 1. Name the most common otologic and non-otologic conditions causing vertigo. 2. Describe the test battery recommended to comprehensively evaluate the dizzy and imbalanced patient. 3. Explain how evidence based diagnostic protocols produce the best outcomes in vestibular rehabilitation."
